Lake Charles, LA – The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for portions of southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas. Residents are advised to prepare for sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31 degrees between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. CST on Friday.

According to the NWS, the affected areas include Beauregard, Allen, Lafayette, Northern and Southern Jefferson Davis, Northern Acadia, and other parishes in Louisiana, as well as Southern Jasper and Newton counties in Texas. The freeze poses risks to crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Residents are encouraged to cover tender plants, insulate exposed pipes, and bring pets indoors to ensure their safety during the cold snap. Additional precautions may include disconnecting garden hoses and draining outdoor faucets to prevent pipe damage.

The warning underscores the potential for frost and freeze impacts, which can be particularly damaging in areas not accustomed to prolonged cold conditions. This freeze warning follows an unseasonably mild fall and serves as a reminder of winter’s arrival.
