Island Park, Idaho – Snow and gusty winds are creating slippery travel conditions across eastern Idaho’s terrain, especially above 6,500 feet through early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pocatello, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. MDT Friday for the Bear River Range and Centennial Mountains, including Island Park and Emigration Summit. Additional snowfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph.

The combination of snow and wind could reduce visibility and create slick, snow-covered roads, particularly along higher elevation routes. Travel impacts are most likely during the Thursday evening commute and overnight hours, when temperatures drop and roads become more hazardous.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check Idaho 511 for real-time road conditions. Blowing snow may also create sudden visibility drops in open areas.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise Friday, but patchy ice and lingering snow could still impact early morning travel in higher elevations.
