West Glacier, Montana – Snow is falling across northwest Montana’s higher terrain, creating slick roads and reduced visibility ahead of the Thursday evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Missoula, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the West Glacier region until 6 p.m. MDT. Snow accumulations of up to 5 inches are expected, especially across higher elevations including Marias Pass, Glacier National Park, and areas along Highway 83 from Bigfork to Swan Lake.
Road conditions are expected to deteriorate through the afternoon, with snow-covered surfaces and limited visibility likely in mountain corridors such as Bad Rock Canyon and near Essex. Even minor accumulations could create hazardous driving conditions, particularly on bridges, curves, and shaded roadways.
Travelers should slow down, allow extra time, and check Montana 511 for the latest road conditions before heading out. The greatest impacts are expected during the evening commute window as snowfall continues.
Conditions are expected to improve after 6 p.m., but lingering slick spots may persist into the night, especially at higher elevations.
