Delaware – Thick bands of wind-driven snow sweep across Wilmington this morning, coating I-95 in fresh slush and cutting visibility in bursts. Snowflakes cling to power lines and tree branches while gusts push past 40 mph. Travel is already slowing, and conditions will worsen through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. today for New Castle County in Delaware and nearby counties in northeastern Maryland. An additional 3 to 7 inches of snow is expected, with snowfall rates topping 2 inches per hour at times. Wind gusts could reach 45 mph inland and up to 60 mph near the coast, creating whiteout conditions.

Road crews are treating major routes, but secondary streets remain snow-covered. Drivers along I-95, Route 1, and I-495 should expect drifting snow and sudden drops in visibility. Officials urge residents to delay non-essential travel. Coastal Flood Advisories also remain in effect near the Delaware River, where minor tidal flooding may impact low-lying roads around high tide.

Snow tapers later today, and skies gradually clear Tuesday with sunshine and highs near 34 degrees. Tuesday night dips into the lower 20s, increasing the risk of flash freezing where melting occurs. Wednesday brings a chance of rain and snow before temperatures rebound into the upper 40s.

By Friday and into the weekend, highs climb into the lower 50s. Longer-range trends point to above-normal temperatures into early March, offering early hints of spring warmth after this late-February snow.

Five Day Outlook for Wilmington, DE
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, high 34°F.
Wednesday: Chance of rain and snow, high 47°F.
Thursday: Rain likely, high 46°F.
Friday: Mostly sunny, high 45°F.
Saturday: Sunny, high 51°F.
