Cleveland, Ohio – Drivers across northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania are navigating near zero visibility this morning, with dense fog cutting sightlines to one-quarter mile or less along Interstate 90 until 11 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for all of northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania through late morning. Visibility may drop below a quarter mile at times, especially near Lake Erie and along river valleys. Sudden changes in visibility could make travel hazardous during the morning commute.

The thickest fog is impacting major corridors including I-90 from Toledo through Cleveland to Erie, I-71 from Cleveland to Mansfield, and I-77 from Akron to Canton. Elevated roadways and bridges may also become damp and slick as moisture condenses on cooler surfaces.

Transportation officials urge motorists to slow down immediately when encountering fog, use low-beam headlights and avoid high beams, which can reflect back and worsen visibility. Leave extra following distance and prepare for abrupt slowdowns on highways and ramps.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve from west to east late this morning as temperatures rise and light mixing develops. However, pockets of dense fog may linger near the lakeshore and in low-lying areas past midmorning.

The advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m., and additional statements could be issued if visibility fails to improve as expected.
