Paducah, Kentucky – Near-record heat will push temperatures into the upper 80s by mid-afternoon today, setting the stage for a sharp shift to widespread rain and thunderstorms by Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, highs will approach or exceed records today and Wednesday, with readings around 87°F across western Kentucky. Conditions turn unsettled Thursday, when showers and thunderstorms become widespread with a 70% to 100% chance of rain and expected totals between 0.5 and 1 inch.
The heaviest impacts are expected along the I-24 corridor, including Paducah, Murray, and Mayfield, where periods of heavy rain could lead to ponding on roads and slower travel Thursday afternoon. While severe weather is not the primary concern, isolated storms could still produce gusty winds and brief downpours.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms arrives Saturday as a cold front pushes through, bringing a 50% to 70% chance of rain. Behind the front, temperatures drop back to more typical mid-April levels by Sunday and Monday.
Residents should prepare for rapid weather changes, stay hydrated during the heat, and remain alert for updates as storm chances increase later this week.
