Charleston, S.C. – Roads and neighborhoods across the South Carolina Lowcountry face a heightened risk of flash flooding through late Saturday night as heavy rain combines with high tides. Emergency managers warn drivers to avoid flood-prone areas, especially near creeks and low-lying coastal roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, an additional 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain is expected through tonight, with localized totals exceeding 4 inches. That follows Friday’s widespread rainfall of 3 to 5 inches, which has already saturated the ground. Creeks and streams such as French Quarter Creek in Huger and Church Creek in West Ashley could rise out of their banks and reach above flood stage.

Minor coastal flooding is also possible in Charleston and Colleton counties during Saturday evening’s high tide, with similar impacts expected around Fort Pulaski in Georgia. The combination of incoming tides and heavy rainfall could worsen conditions in low-lying coastal neighborhoods.

A Flood Watch remains in effect for all of Southeast South Carolina and Southeast Georgia until late Saturday night. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel, never drive through flooded roads, and prepare for additional advisories if rainfall totals climb higher than expected.
