Grand Forks, North Dakota – Slippery roads are already impacting parts of Ramsey County early Friday as a narrow band of light snow drifts east, leaving Devils Lake drivers dealing with reduced traction during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the snow band over eastern North Dakota is weakening as of 7:30 a.m. Friday, with freezing rain and sleet no longer a concern. Light snow will persist through 10 a.m., gradually shifting east toward Grand Forks County, though additional accumulation is expected to remain minimal.

In Ramsey County, including Devils Lake, totals have reached between 1 and 2 inches, enough to create slick secondary roads and untreated surfaces. Travel along U.S. Highway 2 and nearby rural routes may be impacted through mid-morning, especially on bridges and overpasses where temperatures remain colder.

As the system pushes into Grand Forks County, cities like Grand Forks and East Grand Forks could see brief light snow, but accumulations are expected to stay under a dusting. Visibility may dip at times, though widespread disruptions are not anticipated.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain cautious on less-traveled roads where snow cover lingers. North Dakota DOT crews continue monitoring conditions, but some slick spots may persist into the late morning hours.

Conditions are expected to improve by late morning as snowfall tapers off and skies begin to clear. No additional winter weather alerts are currently in effect, though updates will be issued if conditions change.
