State College, PA – An extreme cold watch is set to take effect across central Pennsylvania late Sunday night. Residents should prepare for wind chills potentially dropping to 25 below zero, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS issued the alert for areas including Warren, Clearfield, Somerset, and Northern Clinton counties. The advisory runs from Sunday night through Wednesday morning, marking a prolonged period of dangerously low temperatures. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes under these conditions.

Temperatures combined with high winds will create hazardous conditions for outdoor activities. The NWS recommends dressing in multiple layers and covering all exposed skin to reduce the risk of frostbite or hypothermia.

Officials advise limiting outdoor travel, securing home heating sources, and checking on vulnerable neighbors and pets. The cold wave follows a winter system delivering widespread snow earlier in the week.
