Lincoln, Illinois – Storms are expected to move into west-central Illinois by Saturday afternoon, with a risk for severe weather near the Illinois River and heavy rainfall continuing into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a cold front pushing through the region will trigger widespread showers and thunderstorms, especially Sunday and Monday. A few storms could become severe tonight, particularly northwest of the Illinois River Valley, bringing damaging wind gusts and torrential rain.

Areas south of I-70 face the highest rain chances Monday, with localized flooding possible in low-lying spots. Daytime highs remain seasonably hot, ranging from the upper 80s to low 90s through Tuesday before gradually dropping. Rain chances dip slightly by Tuesday but remain in the forecast into midweek.

Residents in Peoria, Springfield, Decatur, and Champaign should prepare for travel disruptions, especially during the Monday morning commute. Keep devices charged, avoid flooded roads, and monitor local alerts.

Storm coverage will vary, but scattered activity is expected to persist through at least Wednesday. Additional advisories may be issued as conditions develop.
