Danville, IL – The skies over Lake Vermilion will be filled with vibrant colors this weekend as hot air balloons take flight for the annual Balloons Over Vermilion event. Day two of the festivities kicked off Friday, promising an exciting array of activities and breathtaking balloon displays.
The event began with the Splash ‘N Dash on Thursday evening, where balloon pilots aimed for targets in Lake Vermilion. Saturday’s events will continue the excitement with gates opening at the Danville Boat Club at 4:30 PM. Admission is $5 per person.
According to event organizers, attendees can look forward to hot air balloon rides, helicopter rides, and family-friendly activities. Over 30 balloons, including unique shapes and vibrant patterns, will adorn the sky. One of the standout balloons is “Finley,” a whimsical fish-shaped balloon piloted by Taylon Sandlin from Fishers, IN. Sandlin, who has been flying for eight years, brings a playful touch to the event with his bright and eye-catching balloon.
Another notable balloon is “Memories in Flight,” piloted by David Boesdorfer from Springfield, IL. With nine years of experience, Boesdorfer’s balloon, featuring a striking butterfly design, is a favorite among attendees. Jason Gaines from Foley, MO, will also be showcasing his balloon, “Sugar Momma,” bringing 26 years of flying expertise to the festival. Donna Carlton-Vish, a local from Danville, IL, will fly “Sunny Side Up,” adding her 23 years of ballooning experience to the lineup.
