Dearborn, MI – A 53-year-old Dearborn man is hospitalized with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after an officer-involved shooting late Friday night on the city’s west side, according to the Dearborn Police Department.
According to Dearborn police, officers responded just before 11 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, to the 24000 block of New York Street following reports of a man causing a disturbance while allegedly yelling, “die, die, die.”
When officers arrived, they observed a male subject exiting a home armed with a long gun, police said. An officer discharged their weapon, striking the suspect.
Officers immediately rendered aid at the scene before the suspect was taken into custody and transported by the Dearborn Fire Department to a nearby hospital. Authorities said the man, a 53-year-old Dearborn resident, is being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Police said no officers or other individuals were injured during the incident.
As is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings in Michigan, the Michigan State Police have been notified and are conducting the investigation into the use of force.
Authorities said the investigation remains active. No additional information has been released regarding what led to the disturbance or whether any charges are expected.
Police also stated there is no further threat to the community at this time.
