Chanhassen, MN – Dangerous heat and humidity will continue across much of Minnesota through the weekend, with heat index values climbing into the 100 to 110-degree range and the potential for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms by Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, temperatures will rise into the 90s Saturday and Sunday while dew points remain in the 70s, creating oppressive conditions across much of central and southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Some locations could see heat index values as high as 112 degrees, significantly increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Forecasters say overnight temperatures will remain in the 70s, offering little relief from the prolonged heat and humidity.
In addition to the dangerous heat, there is a low-confidence chance for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms to develop Sunday afternoon and evening. If storms form, they could produce damaging wind gusts and large hail, though the National Weather Service emphasizes uncertainty remains high regarding storm coverage and overall development.
Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, and check on older adults, young children, and anyone without reliable air conditioning. Never leave children or pets unattended inside vehicles, where temperatures can rise to life-threatening levels within minutes.
