Duluth, MN – Scattered strong to severe storms are possible this afternoon into tonight across Minnesota. Damaging wind gusts ranging from 60 to 70 mph and large hail are the primary hazards. Secondary threats include locally heavy rainfall, which could lead to minor flooding, and a very low risk (2%) for a tornado or two.

According to the US National Weather Service in Duluth, there is a small (5%) chance that storms this morning in central to east-central Minnesota could be strong. The main severe weather risk is this afternoon into tonight when scattered severe storms are possible.

There remains some uncertainty regarding the storm locations and their evolution. Initial storms today in northwest and northern Minnesota could merge into a squall line and move southeast across northwest Wisconsin this evening into tonight. The primary threats in the afternoon into tonight are damaging wind gusts of 60-70 mph and large hail. Locally heavy rainfall could lead to minor flooding. While the tornado threat is very low at 2%, it is not impossible and remains a concern late this afternoon into mid-evening.
