Twin Cities, MN – Residents of Minnesota are preparing for a hot and humid weekend, with temperatures expected to soar into the upper 80s and mid-90s on Saturday and Sunday. Heat indices could reach the mid-90s to low 100s, creating dangerous conditions for those spending time outdoors.

According to the US National Weather Service Twin Cities Minnesota, there is potential for several rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms throughout the weekend. The storms may produce wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph, posing a threat of downed trees and power lines. The evolution of these storms remains uncertain, but there is potential for them to intensify later in the day.

A heat advisory has been issued across southwest Minnesota along the Buffalo Ridge for Saturday afternoon. The Twin Cities metro area is also under a heat advisory from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

The forecast for Saturday indicates the main severe risk will likely be late in the afternoon and evening. Initial storms could produce large hail over central or northern Minnesota. Clusters of storms may converge into a line moving southeastward, capable of producing damaging wind gusts over 60 mph.
