San Diego, CA – A powerful winter storm is set to impact the San Bernardino and Riverside County mountains beginning Wednesday evening, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Diego, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 10 a.m. Friday. Snow levels, initially near 8,000 feet, are expected to drop to 3,500 feet by Friday. Accumulations range from 4 to 8 inches at elevations between 5,000 and 6,000 feet, increasing to 8 to 15 inches from 6,000 to 7,500 feet. Areas above 7,500 feet could see over 15 inches of snowfall. Winds are forecasted to gust up to 60 mph in the San Bernardino Mountains and 55 mph in the Riverside County Mountains.

The storm is expected to make travel extremely difficult, particularly on mountain roads, with significant impacts anticipated for Thursday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds could lead to tree damage and power outages in affected areas.

Authorities urge residents and travelers to prepare for dangerous conditions. Those who must travel should carry extra food, water, and flashlights in their vehicles. For updated road conditions, travelers can call 511 for statewide information.
