Des Moines, IA – A second winter storm system is set to bring snow across Iowa from late Thursday into Friday, potentially disrupting travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, moderate snowfall is expected, with accumulation likely to impact commutes on Friday. The heaviest snow will fall between Highway 3 and Interstate 80, covering much of central Iowa. Snowfall amounts of 2 to 6 inches are forecasted, with higher totals possible in some areas.

While winds will be lighter than the previous storm, snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour could create hazardous road conditions, especially during the Friday morning commute. Officials warn that travel times may be longer than usual, urging drivers to plan ahead.

Rain is expected in the southern parts of the state, but areas north of Interstate 80 will likely see all snow. Forecasters are monitoring the storm for any shifts in snowfall totals.

Travelers should stay updated on road conditions and check for weather alerts before heading out. The Iowa State Patrol advises drivers to slow down and allow extra travel time.
