Beecher, IL – Beecher Police responded to Beecher Elementary School on Monday after reports of a possible weapon on campus.
School administrators contacted police immediately after hearing concerns about a student bringing a weapon. Police and school staff investigated the incident and determined the item in question was a lighter resembling a firearm.
According to a statement from Beecher Community School District 200U Superintendent Dr. Gaham, the investigation confirmed no weapon or threat was present. “Through a collaborative effort with police, the it was found to be a look alike weapon that was a lighter. The school deemed no serious risk to students or staff,” the statement read.
Authorities emphasized that at no point was there any danger to the public or school community.
