Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico State Police carried out a major traffic enforcement operation on Interstate 40 on August 19, 2024. Officers from District 5, District 6, and District 9 participated in the high-visibility operation, targeting aggressive drivers, distracted driving, and seatbelt violations.
During the operation, officers issued 207 speeding citations and 103 other traffic-related infractions. Additionally, they cited six drivers for seatbelt violations. The operation also resulted in two felony arrests and one misdemeanor arrest.
According to New Mexico State Police, the operation focused on keeping motorists safe by enforcing traffic laws along I-40, a key east-west corridor. The enforcement took place between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., with officers monitoring both eastbound and westbound lanes. Police emphasized that safety remains a top priority and that similar operations will continue.
