Merrimack, NH – A crash on the Everett Turnpike in Merrimack on Saturday caused a two-hour closure of northbound lanes at Exit 10.
The accident occurred around 4:28 p.m. when a Honda Accord, driven by Michael Ruiz, 19, of Nashua, struck construction barrels and went down an embankment. Authorities said Ruiz sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the New Hampshire State Police, Troopers, Merrimack Fire Department, and Department of Transportation crews responded to clear debris and remove the vehicle. No other cars were involved, and no additional injuries were reported.
Police cited Ruiz for reckless driving. Investigators said speed appeared to be a factor, but the case remains under review. Authorities are asking witnesses or anyone with information to contact Trooper Matthew Howe at (603) 223-4381 or via email at Matthew.S.Howe@DOS.NH.GOV.
The Everett Turnpike reopened after emergency teams completed cleanup efforts. Drivers are reminded to remain cautious, especially in construction zones.
