Dunnville, KY – Kentucky State Police (KSP) charged 54 individuals with animal cruelty following a chicken-fighting investigation Saturday in Casey County.
KSP Post 15 in Columbia received a tip at 11:10 a.m. Saturday about an active chicken-fighting event on Riffe Creek Road. Troopers quickly responded to the Dunnville property, where they found a large gathering actively participating in the illegal event.
Troopers immediately shut down the operation and interviewed attendees. According to KSP, all 54 individuals at the scene were cited for Cruelty to Animals 2nd Degree. The citations require appearances in Casey County District Court, though court dates have not yet been announced.
Animal cruelty laws in Kentucky classify chicken-fighting as a second-degree offense, a misdemeanor punishable by fines and possible jail time. Troopers said the case remains under investigation, and additional charges could follow.
Residents are urged to report any suspected animal cruelty or illegal animal fighting to KSP by calling 1-800-222-5555.
