17-Year-Old Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident in Gary, Indiana

Gary, IN – A 17-year-old girl was identified as the victim in a fatal hit-and-run crash Saturday morning at 5th Avenue and Madison Street, officials said.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as Eunikeu Roberson, who lived in the 1600 block of 11th Avenue in Gary. According to the coroner’s report, Roberson was pronounced dead at 6:49 a.m., shortly after first responders arrived on the scene.

Gary Police officers responding to the crash found Roberson lying on the north side of 5th Avenue with severe injuries. A damaged electric scooter was also located near the roadway. Witnesses reported that the vehicle involved fled the scene before authorities arrived.

A forensic autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point to determine the cause and manner of death.

Police executed a search warrant at a residence connected to the suspect and seized the vehicle believed to have been involved. A person of interest was taken into custody, and charges are pending review by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.
