Kansas City, MO – A stretch of summer-like warmth is settling across Missouri and the Kansas City metro this week, with temperatures climbing from the low 80s into the upper 80s and low 90s by Friday, May 15, and continuing through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, dry and warm conditions will dominate through midweek, with slightly cooler air possible Wednesday, May 13, behind a weak cold front. Highs are still expected to remain seasonably warm, generally in the upper 70s to low 80s.

The bigger shift arrives Tuesday afternoon and evening, May 12, when scattered showers and thunderstorms develop across parts of Missouri and eastern Kansas. Storm chances remain relatively low at 15% to 25%, but a few storms could turn strong to severe. The main threats include damaging wind gusts and large hail, especially south of a line from Olathe, Kansas, to Kirksville, Missouri.

Forecasters note uncertainty in how widespread Tuesday’s storms will be, but residents are advised to stay weather-aware into the evening hours.

By Friday, May 15, storm chances increase again and continue through the weekend, May 17–18, with probabilities rising to 35% to 55%. This period may bring more widespread showers and thunderstorms, along with cloud cover that could slightly limit peak daytime temperatures.

Across the Kansas City metro, including Jackson and Clay counties, highs are expected to reach near 90 degrees by Friday and persist into early next week, with overnight lows staying mild in the 60s.

Travelers and outdoor planners should prepare for changing conditions, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours when storms are most likely.
