Richmond, VA – A significant winter storm is bringing heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions across Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, with warnings in effect until 6 p.m. EST Thursday. Snowfall totals could reach up to 10 inches in some areas, making travel dangerous.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield, VA, eastern and southeastern Virginia, including Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Richmond, can expect between 5 to 10 inches of snow. Central and south-central Virginia, including Prince Edward, Mecklenburg, and Lunenburg counties, are forecasted to receive an additional 3 to 5 inches.

In northeastern North Carolina, including Currituck, Pasquotank, and Hertford counties, snowfall is expected to range from 5 to 9 inches, with a light glaze of ice possible. The Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes are expected to be significantly impacted.
