Blacksburg, VA – A winter storm continues to impact Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina, with heavy snow and strong winds expected through Thursday and into early Friday. Several inches of snow and hazardous travel conditions are forecasted.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, VA, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday for central and south-central Virginia, including Lynchburg, Danville, and South Boston, as well as Rockingham and Caswell counties in North Carolina. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected.
Further west, in Tazewell County, VA, and Mercer, Summers, and Western Greenbrier counties in West Virginia, the warning remains in place until 1 a.m. Friday. These areas could see 2 to 4 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching 40 mph, making travel dangerous.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick, impacting commutes Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Officials advise delaying travel if possible. If travel is necessary, drivers should keep an emergency kit in their vehicles, drive cautiously, and allow extra time to reach their destination.
