Fort Gibson, OK – A shooting investigation is underway in Muskogee County after a man was killed Saturday afternoon near a Dollar General store in Fort Gibson, with a suspect later taken into custody miles away.
According to the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1:53 p.m. on April 18, 2026, to an incident at 100 N. 4 Mile Road. Officials said a male victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A female connected to the crash sustained injuries and was also taken for medical treatment.
Witnesses at the scene provided key details that helped investigators identify a suspect believed to be traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 69. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol later located and apprehended the suspect near Atoka.
The Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, led the on-scene investigation. The Muskogee Police Department also assisted, including clearing a residence linked to the case after reports that a possible individual had been dropped off there.
