Tucson, AZ – Triple-digit heat is pushing into Southern Arizona right now, with Tucson nearing 100°F and surrounding communities climbing even higher through the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, a persistent March heat wave will drive daily record highs through Friday, with Ajo expected to peak at 101°F by mid-afternoon Thursday and Tucson reaching 98°F to 100°F during the same window. Oro Valley, Marana, and Green Valley are all tracking in the upper 90s, stressing power grids and increasing heat-related illness risk.

Across Pima County, pavement temperatures on Interstate 10 and State Route 77 are rising quickly after 2 p.m., which can increase tire blowout risk. In Cochise County, Douglas, Sierra Vista, and Bisbee are also seeing highs in the low to mid-90s, well above seasonal averages.

Relief begins this weekend, but not immediately. Highs will still reach the upper 80s to low 90s Saturday and Sunday. Moisture moving in from the south will introduce a 10% to 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms starting late Saturday night, continuing through Monday, especially near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Limit outdoor activity during peak heat between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable residents. Additional advisories may be issued if storm activity strengthens into early next week.
