Memphis, Tennessee – A sharp temperature swing is underway across the Mid-South, with chilly conditions early Sunday quickly giving way to summer-like warmth by midweek, impacting everything from morning commutes to energy use.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, low temperatures started in the low to mid-40s Sunday morning—well below the typical low in the mid-50s. Cities like Jackson dropped to 41 degrees, while Tupelo and Jonesboro hovered in the mid-40s. Highs Sunday remain slightly below normal, with Memphis reaching about 71 degrees.

The warming trend accelerates quickly. By Tuesday and Wednesday, highs will climb into the low 80s across Memphis, Jackson, and Tupelo, with some locations reaching 84 degrees by Thursday. Overnight lows will also rebound, rising from the 40s early in the week into the upper 50s and 60s by midweek.

This rapid shift could affect daily routines, especially for early commuters facing cool mornings followed by warm afternoons. While no major travel disruptions are expected, drivers may notice changing road conditions tied to temperature swings, particularly during early morning hours.

Residents should dress in layers and prepare for fluctuating indoor temperatures. Heating demand early in the week may quickly transition to cooling needs by midweek.
