Bloomington, Illinois – Multiple tornado tracks slicing through McLean County are now confirmed after storm surveys identified at least five tornadoes, several crossing major roadways and populated areas with winds up to 110 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, preliminary survey results show five EF1 tornadoes touched down Friday, including a long-track tornado from Normal to Towanda that stayed on the ground for 10.3 miles with peak winds of 110 mph. Another EF1 tornado tracked 4.1 miles from the Bloomington Country Club area to near Towanda Barnes Road, while a separate 1.3-mile path followed Veterans Parkway through Bloomington with winds near 100 mph.

Additional damage paths extend northeast of McLean toward the Ford County line, including areas near Downs and Ellsworth, with one track exceeding 20 miles. Mapping shows multiple crossings near key routes including I-55, Veterans Parkway, and local county roads, raising concerns about debris and localized road impacts.

Damage appears consistent with EF1 intensity, including downed trees, roof damage, and scattered structural impacts. No higher-end tornado ratings have been confirmed at this time, but survey teams are continuing assessments across surrounding counties.

More survey work is scheduled through Sunday and Monday, and officials say additional tornadoes or extended paths could still be identified. Residents should remain alert for updated reports and avoid damaged areas where cleanup operations are underway.
