Madison, WI — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved death after a Monday night incident in Madison’s west side.
Police responded to the Best Western on Annamark Drive around 8:22 p.m. following reports of a vehicle theft. Officers encountered a man, described as an adult male, on foot and pursued him. He was apprehended and taken into custody, with emergency responders conducting an on-scene medical evaluation.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ), the man became unresponsive after being transported to the Dane County Jail. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead on Tuesday. No weapons were discharged during the incident.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy. The DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is leading the case, with support from local agencies and a crime response specialist.
Officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. Findings will be forwarded to the Dane County District Attorney.
