Winnipeg Police Urge Caution After Suspicious Male Grabs Child Near School

Winnipeg, MB – Authorities are investigating a suspicious incident involving a middle-school-aged child near Greenway School on September 10, 2024.

The child was walking southbound on Banning Street, heading west on Einarson Avenue at lunchtime, when a stranger approached him. The male suspect said something and grabbed the child, but the child fought back. After a brief struggle, the child broke free, ran home, and told a parent. The child was not physically harmed.

According to Winnipeg Police, the suspect was last seen heading north on Banning Street near Orioles Park. He was described as a male wearing a plaid shirt, blue jeans, and a blue ski mask covering his face.

Greenway School has notified parents, and authorities are urging parents to talk to their children about safety. The Child Abuse Unit is investigating, and anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Police encourage the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to trusted adults or authorities.
