Buffalo, NY — A tornado was confirmed in Worth, NY after a storm on September 9, 2024. The National Weather Service (NWS) Buffalo used satellite imagery to verify the tornado on clear sky days following the storm.

According to the NWS, the tornado touched down at 5:15 p.m. in the Town of Worth, lasting two minutes. Preliminary damage reports classify the tornado as “EF-Unknown” with an estimated path length of 0.1 miles and a width of 50 yards. Maximum wind speeds remain unknown.

This tornado brings New York State’s 2024 tornado total to 32. NWS Buffalo has recorded 14 of these within its coverage area. Satellite data from the Sentinel-2 polar orbiting satellite contributed to confirming the tornado.
