According to the Winnipeg Police Service, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on November 2, 2025, when the woman was stopped by store security for allegedly leaving without paying for merchandise. During the confrontation, she allegedly produced a hatchet and threatened security staff before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported.

Police say officers from the West District General Patrol located the suspect around 12:02 p.m. in the 900 block of Henderson Highway, where she was taken into custody. A hatchet was recovered at the time of her arrest.

Authorities identified the suspect as Kayla Marie Edine, 30, who now faces charges including robbery and failing to comply with conditions of undertaking. Investigators also learned Edine was wanted on three other arrest warrants for similar offenses, including break and enter to commit robbery, failure to comply, and failure to attend court.

She remains in custody as the investigation continues.
