Will County, IL – Two 14-Year-Olds Charged in Plainfield Arson Fire at Former Larry’s Diner

Plainfield, IL – Two juveniles have been arrested and charged with arson following a fire at the former Larry’s Diner in Plainfield, Illinois, which occurred on March 24, 2025. The blaze, which broke out on the north side of the building, prompted a swift response from the Plainfield Police Department and Plainfield Fire Protection District.

According to investigators, upon arriving at the scene, firefighters observed significant flames and worked quickly to control the fire. Fire investigators determined the fire was intentionally set, leading to the identification of two 14-year-old juveniles as persons of interest in the case. The investigation revealed additional evidence linking the suspects to the incident.

Further investigation led detectives to connect the two juveniles to another report of criminal damage near Lockport Street and Wood Farm Road, which occurred shortly after the fire. A forensic examination of the suspects’ phones revealed evidence that linked them to the March 24th fire.

On May 8, 2025, both juveniles were taken into custody and formally charged with arson and felony criminal damage to property. The Plainfield Police Department and Fire Protection District praised the diligent work of investigators and first responders in resolving the case.
