Manhattan, IL – A juvenile reportedly stabbed an unidentified man in the arm with a pen Tuesday afternoon after the suspect allegedly grabbed them while they were playing outside near First Street and Brynn Avenue.

Authorities say the suspect, described as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and black pants, allegedly grabbed one of the juveniles by the right arm.

In what police say appeared to be an act of self-defense, the juvenile used a pen to stab the man in the left arm. The suspect then walked away from the scene and was last seen heading southbound on Brynn Avenue from First Street.

Police say the suspect’s nationality remains unknown and that the children were unharmed in the encounter. Officers immediately contacted Manhattan School District 114 staff, who are now working in coordination with police as the investigation continues.
