Enterprise, Oregon – Residents across the Wallowa Valley should protect tender plants Saturday before temperatures potentially plunge to 30 degrees overnight, cold enough to damage crops, gardens and exposed outdoor plumbing.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Freeze Watch covers Wallowa County from late Saturday night through Sunday morning. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are possible across the Wallowa Valley, including Enterprise, Joseph and Wallowa.
The sharp overnight temperature drop could bring frost and freeze conditions to farms, home gardens and other areas with sensitive vegetation. Plants left uncovered Saturday night could suffer damage or die if temperatures remain below freezing.
Residents should cover vulnerable plants or move potted vegetation indoors before temperatures fall Saturday night. Outdoor plumbing susceptible to freezing should also be insulated or otherwise protected.
Drivers around Enterprise, Joseph and Wallowa should remain alert early Sunday, particularly in colder low-lying locations where temperatures may reach freezing. Motorists should watch for localized frost on exposed surfaces during the early morning hours.
The Freeze Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning. Residents should monitor National Weather Service updates Saturday in case forecasters upgrade the watch or issue additional cold-weather alerts.
