Wichita, KS – Temperatures dipping near freezing early this morning could damage sensitive plants before a sharp warmup takes hold across Kansas in the coming days.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, lows between 32 and 38 degrees are expected early Saturday, with patchy frost possible across central, south-central, and southeast Kansas. Similar conditions may return Sunday morning, especially in rural and low-lying areas.

Cities including Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina, and Winfield will see a quick rebound by afternoon, with highs climbing into the low to mid-60s under mostly sunny skies. The cool start won’t last long, as a steady warming trend builds into early next week.

By Sunday, highs rise into the 70s, followed by widespread 70s and low 80s Monday and Tuesday. Overnight lows will also moderate, reducing frost concerns after the weekend.

Residents should protect sensitive vegetation during the early morning hours and remain aware of chilly conditions at sunrise. Warmer, more stable weather is expected to dominate through midweek, with no major hazards currently anticipated.
