Monticello, IN – A Twin Lakes High School crossing guard was struck by a vehicle early Thursday near Ohio Street between the high school and Meadowlawn Elementary. Dorothy McMasters, the crossing guard, was hit while attempting to stop traffic for students crossing the street.
According to Monticello Police, a white Chevrolet Impala driven by 37-year-old Nicolas Martin of Burnettsville, Indiana, struck McMasters at 7:59 a.m. She was wearing a high-visibility vest and standing in the crosswalk when the incident occurred. McMasters sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to IU Arnett in Lafayette. No students were harmed during the incident.
