Dodge City, Kansas – Thunderstorms are expected to ramp up across western Kansas this weekend, with the strongest activity likely Sunday afternoon into the evening. Cities like Dodge City, Garden City, and Liberal could see hail, gusty winds, and locally heavy downpours as the system strengthens.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, storm chances remain scattered on Saturday, ranging from 20% to 40% in most areas. However, the risk increases significantly on Sunday, with a 50–60% chance of thunderstorms across much of southwest Kansas, including Finney, Ford, and Seward counties.

Residents should prepare for potential severe storms Sunday, especially along U.S. Highway 50 and near the Oklahoma border. Emergency managers recommend staying weather-aware and avoiding flooded roadways. Farmers and outdoor event organizers are advised to have backup plans in place as rain could be locally heavy.

This marks one of the more active summer storm weekends since early June, with warm air and lingering moisture fueling instability. NWS forecasters say additional watches or warnings could be issued if storm intensity increases late Sunday.
