Indianapolis, IN – A family of four was displaced early Saturday morning after returning to find their home on fire in the 500 block of Centennial Street on the city’s west side.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, crews responded around 1:16 a.m. after multiple 911 calls reported heavy flames engulfing two neighboring houses. Firefighters arrived to find active flames and quickly initiated an aggressive attack. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.
The blaze originated at 536 Centennial St. and spread to an adjacent home, prompting the evacuation of a second family of five. While both structures were impacted, fire officials confirmed that damage to the second home was limited to its exterior.
IFD investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported, and the displaced family of four was able to retrieve their two dogs and one cat from the scene.
The Red Cross has not yet confirmed whether assistance is being provided to the displaced families.
Photos shared by IFD show intense flames and heavy smoke as firefighters battled the blaze through the night. Crews remained on scene to monitor hotspots and secure the structure.
This marks one of several overnight fire responses for Indianapolis firefighters this week, as officials continue to urge residents to check smoke detectors and practice fire safety at home.
