Lubbock, Texas – Strong wind gusts and hail could disrupt evening plans across West Texas today as marginally severe storms develop late Saturday afternoon into the night.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to quarter size are expected to impact the region through the evening hours. The risk covers a large portion of the South Plains, including Lubbock, Plainview, and Childress.

Localized storms could bring brief but damaging bursts of wind, particularly along U.S. Route 84 near Slaton and Highway 70 near Turkey. Outdoor activities, especially fireworks events, may face delays or cancellations. Residents should secure loose objects, remain indoors during any storm activity, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio for updates.

The risk is categorized as “marginal,” the lowest level on the severe weather scale, but conditions may still pose hazards to drivers and outdoor gatherings, especially during peak travel hours.

Storm chances will taper off later tonight, but isolated cells could linger in southeastern counties into early Sunday. Further advisories are possible if storm strength increases.
