Charleston, WV – A major winter storm is bringing heavy snow to parts of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Virginia, creating hazardous travel conditions through Thursday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday, with additional snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches expected. The warning covers Lawrence County in Kentucky; Dickenson and Buchanan Counties in Virginia; and multiple counties in West Virginia, including Wayne, Lincoln, Mingo, Logan, Boone, McDowell, Wyoming, Raleigh, Fayette, and Nicholas.
Officials warn that road conditions will deteriorate quickly, particularly impacting Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility will make travel dangerous, and delays are expected across major highways and rural routes alike.
Drivers are urged to use caution and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, including flashlights, food, and water. Up-to-date road conditions can be accessed by calling 511 or visiting state transportation websites.
