Baltimore, MD – A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Friday for Western Grant and Western Pendleton counties in West Virginia, as well as Western Highland County in Virginia. The Wind Advisory for the region expired at midnight.
The National Weather Service reports wind chills as low as 10 to 20 degrees below zero, creating significant risks of hypothermia and frostbite for those exposed to the cold without proper precautions. Earlier gusts of up to 55 mph raised concerns for power outages, and residents are urged to ensure they have plans to stay warm if outages occur.
Drivers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, should remain vigilant in windy conditions. Residents in affected areas, including Franklin and Monterey, should also secure loose outdoor objects, including holiday decorations.
Authorities advise wearing layered clothing, including hats and gloves, to minimize exposure to the cold. Generators, if used, should only operate outdoors in well-ventilated spaces to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
Stay informed through updates from the National Weather Service and local media as the region endures unusually frigid conditions.
