Davenport, Iowa – Temperatures will fall below freezing across the Quad Cities region tonight, creating an immediate risk to vegetation and possible slick spots for the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, a Freeze Warning is in effect overnight with lows dropping into the upper 20s north to low 30s south by early Monday morning. The freeze will be widespread across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, Moline, and Galesburg.
Any leftover moisture on roads could refreeze overnight, especially on bridges and overpasses along I-80, I-74, and US-61 before 8 a.m. Monday. While precipitation chances today remain limited at 20 to 40 percent, colder air moving in tonight will allow frost to develop quickly after sunset.
The cold poses a direct threat to early-season crops and gardens. Residents should cover or bring in sensitive plants, disconnect hoses, and shut off sprinkler systems to prevent damage. Outdoor plumbing may also be at risk if left unprotected.
Conditions improve Monday afternoon with highs rebounding into the mid-50s to upper 60s, followed by a rapid warm-up into the 70s by Tuesday and near 80 degrees by Wednesday.
The freeze threat ends by mid-morning Monday, but additional updates will be issued if colder temperatures expand or persist.
