Charleston, WV — As of this morning, temperatures dipped into the 40s in the lowlands and mid-30s in higher elevations, creating a chilly start for West Virginians. Early commuters likely needed layers, but by this afternoon, much of the region will warm significantly, with highs expected to reach the 80s in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, dry weather will persist through midweek, with clear nights and sunny days. While some areas experienced patchy fog earlier, particularly in mountain valleys, conditions will clear as the day progresses.

By 11 a.m., temperatures in the lowlands have risen, moving from the morning low of 46-50°F toward the afternoon highs of 82-85°F. Mountain areas, which started the day in the 30s, will warm to 70-80°F by the afternoon. Residents can expect to shed their morning layers as the warm weather settles in for the remainder of the day.

No major weather systems are forecast for the next several days, making for a steady pattern of chilly mornings and warm afternoons.
