Abilene, TX – Triple-digit-style heat is arriving early across West Central Texas, with afternoon highs pushing the upper 90s through Sunday and threatening records typically seen closer to summer.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, highs from Friday through Sunday are expected to reach 96 to 98 degrees in Abilene and San Angelo, potentially breaking daily records and nearing the hottest temperatures ever recorded this early in the year. Some of these benchmarks date back more than a century.

Abilene could hit 98 degrees Saturday and Sunday, matching or exceeding long-standing records from the early 1900s. San Angelo is forecast to peak around 97 degrees Saturday, also flirting with historic highs. Roads, vehicles, and buildings will heat quickly during peak afternoon hours, increasing risks for heat-related illness.

Residents across Taylor and Tom Green counties should limit outdoor activity during the afternoon, stay hydrated, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Energy demand may spike as air conditioners run continuously.

This stretch of unusual March heat will persist through Sunday evening before slight cooling early next week. Additional advisories may be issued if temperatures trend higher.
