Grundy, Va. – Light snow will continue to create slick and hazardous travel across far southwest Virginia through late Monday night, especially on mountain roads and untreated secondary routes.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday for Buchanan and Dickenson counties, including Grundy, Clintwood and Breaks Interstate Park. Up to 2 inches of additional snowfall is expected, enough to coat bridges and overpasses and impact both the morning and evening commutes.

Roads along U.S. 460, Route 83 and Route 80 could become slippery as temperatures stay below freezing. Drivers are urged to slow down and check Virginia 511 for updated travel conditions before heading out.

Farther north in West Virginia, a previously issued Winter Storm Warning has been canceled for Jackson, Lincoln, Putnam, Wirt, Ritchie and Doddridge counties. Those areas remain under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 p.m. Monday for up to 1 inch of additional snow, which could still create slick stretches on Interstate 77 and U.S. 33.

Light snow will gradually taper later tonight, but icy patches may linger into early Tuesday morning.
