Virginia Beach, VA – A dangerous heat wave will bake Southeast Virginia through at least Tuesday, with high temperatures near 93°F and heat index values topping 100°F. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook that spans from Saturday through Tuesday, urging residents to take heat precautions seriously.

According to the Wakefield office of the National Weather Service, maximum heat index values are expected to exceed 100°F across the coastal area beginning Saturday and continuing through Tuesday evening. The warning covers Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, and surrounding cities in eastern and southeastern Virginia. Drivers on I-264 and Route 58 should be cautious, especially during peak afternoon heat.

Daytime highs will hover in the low to mid 90s through early next week with light winds offering little relief. Residents should stay indoors during midday, hydrate frequently, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. Vulnerable groups such as seniors and young children are at increased risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Evenings will offer mild relief with lows in the upper 70s. Sunshine will dominate skies through Tuesday, and no rain is expected, adding to the persistent dry heat.

Spotter activation is not anticipated, but public safety agencies will be monitoring conditions.

More heat is expected midweek, though no formal advisories are active beyond Tuesday yet.
