Richmond, VA – Strong storms with damaging winds and possible tornadoes will impact Virginia today, with the highest threat in the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a squall line of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move through the state between late morning and evening. The most significant risk will occur west of I-95 from 11 AM to 3 PM and east of I-95, including the Eastern Shore, between 2 PM and 6 PM. Wind gusts could exceed 60 mph, with a few tornadoes possible.

The Level 3 risk indicates a high confidence in severe storms, including isolated tornadoes and widespread damaging winds. Residents should secure loose outdoor items, have multiple ways to receive alerts, and be prepared for rapid weather changes.
