Salt Lake City, UT – A significant heatwave is expected to hit southern Utah, with dangerous temperatures predicted to reach between 110 and 115 degrees starting Sunday afternoon. The US National Weather Service Salt Lake City issued an Excessive Heat Warning, beginning at 9 AM Sunday and persisting through 9 PM Wednesday, with potential extensions into the week. Overnight lows in the upper 70s and lower 80s will provide limited relief from the heat. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and shift outdoor activities to early morning or late evening hours.

According to the US National Weather Service, the heatwave is due to a strengthening ridge of high pressure. In addition to the heat, critical fire weather conditions are expected across western Uinta Basin, San Rafael Swell, and Color Country Mountains from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening, and in the Henry Mountains and Grand Staircase areas on Sunday. Gusty winds up to 35 mph and very low relative humidity levels, between 3-12%, will exacerbate fire risks.

Red Flag Warnings have been issued for these regions, urging caution with campfires, fireworks, and activities that could create sparks. Residents should follow local fire restrictions to prevent wildfires.

This combination of severe heat and fire weather risks underscores the importance of taking precautions to stay safe and protect property. The weather conditions are likely to continue through the upcoming week, making it crucial for Utah residents to remain vigilant and prepared.
